The Key issues
Children and Young People
Children and Young people living and studying in Leyton experience a range of complex issues which are clustered around education, health and spaces for young people.
Key areas of focus for Team Leyton include:
- Supporting the development of a co-ordinated approach to work with children and young people
- Increasing the range and quality of positive activities
- Changing perceptions of young people
- Increasing attainment at primary and secondary schools
- Reducing teenage conception rates
Our work around children and young people involves supporting the development and delivery of projects that primarily meet local need and adds to the delivery of Every Child Matters and Youth Matters agenda.
Examples of projects that team Leyton have been instrumental in realising include:
- Streetlife Community Radio
- Enhancing capacity of providers to deliver varied programmes of positive activities for children and young people.
- Initiating the implementation of the Young Advisers project to facilitate the borough wide involvement of young people in the shaping and delivery of services.
- Establishing a condom distribution project that involves young people acting as advisors and distributors
